Eric Appel's "The Breadwinner" has reached digital platform With the hit comedian Nate Bargatze starring as this films lead. Unfortunately, the film struggles to balance its comedic elements with deeper themes, leaving viewers confused about its intent. Ultimately, it falls short of expectations, lacking the character depth needed to enhance its comedic moments.

"The Breadwinner" follows a man who has to replace the role of his stay-at-home wife, as he learns that he may not be fit for the job. The plot itself sounds new yet familiar, something that could genuinely be fun, especially with Nate Bargatze being the star.

WHY DIDN'T THIS WIN?

"The Breadwinner" did not nearly meet the expectations I had in mind. The film is titled a comedy, but I didn't even laugh or smile throughout this movie. I wasn't all that familiar with Nate Bargatze's comedic work besides a few clips, but I at least expected to giggle throughout this film. This film fails at its humor, and there's nothing really special about it. I tried to even look beyond the failed comedy and get into the actual story, but the story kind of feels like a poor attempt at trying to portray a message.

Colin Jost in this film plays Nate's annoying neighbor who LOVES Nate, and I found myself more attached to him than the actual main character. The same could be said for Will Forte's character as well. The message of this film is that the point of parenthood is that the job never ends and the hard labor put into it, yet this film does not do a great job of portraying that. The creators of this film had a vision, and I could definitely see the story they were trying to showcase; nonetheless, this film gave us nothing to work with as an audience.

FINAL PEACE OF BREAD

The Breadwinner gave me nothing but a waste of 1 hour and 30 minutes, which upsets me because I had high hopes for this film. The guest comedians in this film have more shine than the main character, making me feel like the side characters should have their own movie instead. There could be something special with the general idea, but this film just fails in its final execution. "The Breadwinner" flounders the meaning of comedy, and I give it a 3/10.
